Swede Dish Berry Glögg
Description
A festive and cozy Berry Glögg recipe for the Swede Dish brand — a holiday-ready twist on traditional Swedish mulled wine that incorporates dark berries for richness and a ruby hue, perfectly suited for chilly gatherings and cheerful fika spreads. Make-ahead friendly — reheats beautifully!
Ingredients
- 1 bottle dry red wine (750 ml)
- ½ cup blackcurrant juice (or pomegranate juice)
- ½ cup mixed berries (frozen or fresh – lingonberries, blackberries, blueberries)
- ¼ cup dried cranberries or raisins
- ½ orange, sliced
- 5 whole cloves
- 3 green cardamom pods, gently crushed
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise (optional)
- ¼ tsp freshly grated nutmeg
- ¼ cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- ¼ cup vodka, aquavit, or berry liqueur (optional, for extra warmth)
- Additional orange slices
- Whole cranberries or lingonberries
- Cinnamon stick per glass
- Toasted almond slivers or raisins in each cup (a traditional touch!)
Optional Garnishes
Instructions
Combine ingredients (except alcohol) in a large saucepan or slow cooker.
Bring just to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low. Do not boil.
Simmer gently for 30–40 minutes to allow flavors to develop.
Stir in vodka or liqueur just before serving, if using.
Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth.
Serve warm in mugs or heat-safe glasses with optional garnish.
