Spiced Apple Cider in Goblets

Description
A warm, aromatic drink served in goblets for a little old-world magic.
Ingredients
1
quart
apple cider (unfiltered, if possible)
(4 cups)
1
cinnamon
stick
4
whole
cloves
3
allspice
berries
1
star
anise
2–3
thin
slices of fresh ginger
1
of
Peel orange
(use a vegetable peeler)
1–2
tbsp
maple syrup or honey
(to taste)
splash of
pear juice or a dash of lingonberry syrup for a Swede Dish twist
(Optional:)
Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients.

Bring to a simmer over medium heat (don’t boil).

Reduce heat to low, cover, and let steep for 20–30 minutes.

Strain out the spices and orange peel. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.

Serve hot in glass goblets or handled mugs. Garnish with an orange slice, cinnamon stick, or star anise.
Note
Optional Add-Ons:
Add a splash of bourbon or dark rum for the grown-ups
Top with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon for a dessert-like version
